The rehabilitation project focuses on a building located in Porto’s Downtown, whose original structure dates back to the 19th century, reflecting the characteristic typology of the historic city center: a narrow and deep plot organized longitudinally, with its corresponding rear courtyard.
Over time, the building accommodated different uses, mirroring the social and economic transformations of the city. The current intervention proposes its conversion into housing, restoring a domestic function adapted to contemporary needs. The program is organized into typologies ranging from studio (T0) to two-bedroom units (T2), addressing different residential profiles, while the ground floor maintains a commercial space facing the street, strengthening the relationship with the public realm and the urban dynamics of downtown Porto.
The proposal seeks to balance the preservation of the building’s constructive and spatial identity with a contemporary approach to habitability, comfort, and functionality.
